The Netflix engineers work hard and fix the problem several hours later. Unfortunately, in the meantime, 10 million subscribers have been looking elsewhere and have written requesting a refund.  Ok, so not all Netflix customers were unable to receive their movie that night but, for those that didn’t, it struck them as a very peculiar time for Netflix to perform routine maintenance.

Layer Seven Hosting will be performing routine maintenance and upgrading our data centre on Thursday January 21^st. The maintenance is needed because of recent updates we have received from Juniper which address vulnerability in the system. The maintenance will take approximately two hours and will be commenced at 00.00am and will continue until 02.00am. The required maintenance will not result in any downtime although you may see up to 15 minutes of slight service degradation on your hosting account.  This service degradation will be minimal and you probably won’t even feel the effect, however our engineers will monitor the process continuously.
