Apple and AT&T

admin | June 16, 2010 | 1:49 pm

AT&T and Apple are having a few slight teething problems with the release of the iPhone 4 mobile it seems. Not with the mobile itself but with the websites and a lot of down time. Customers trying to feverishly pre-order an iPhone 4 are being disappointed.

As thousands of buyers rush on the internet to pre-order their iPhone 4, the websites are more often than not posting this message – “We’re sorry, but we are experiencing a system error that prevents us from completing your request.”

When they aren’t, users are saying that logging in is taking hours, as is registering for the iPhone 4. And some customers have found themselves charged numerous times for the iPhone 4 when they’ve only ordered one. It looks like someone definitely needs some load balanced hosting!

ITV Needs Layer 7

admin | June 15, 2010 | 11:53 am

First rule of a big event – if you’re going to publicise it on your website, for goodness’ sake make sure your servers can handle the increased traffic!

Let’s take a look at a good example of how not to do it. Of course, it would be the biggest event ever – the World Cup 2010. Of course, I may exaggerate there, but a lot of diehard football fans have been waiting four years for this.

Taking time out a busy schedule, many people chose to watch the first 2010 World Cup match between South Africa and Mexico online. On the ITV internet website. Unfortunately, despite hyping the fact it’d be showing the World Cup, the ITV site couldn’t handle the traffic and the servers went down. Once they were back up, footy fans were treated to frozen images and poor quality pictures.

ITV – you should have gone to Layer 7.
