I Love LAMP, Hosting

admin | October 29, 2010 | 9:49 am

Linux web hosting (sometime referred to as LAMP – Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP) solutions are suitable for webmasters who use Linux hosting features.  These features can include Perl programming, PHP programming and MySQL databases.

Why Choose LAMP?

Linux Web Hosting allows a company to build its websites by using the Linux Operating System.  This as a platform gives companies the flexibility to take advantage of the best and most popular open-source technologies such as Python and XML.

Linux web hosting and Unix web hosting are the most common budget hosting platforms used today. They are cheap and provide enormous amounts of space in their web hosting plans, accompanied with lots of installed features.

Marijuana-related Domain Names Snapped Up

admin | October 28, 2010 | 9:39 am

Over 1,000 marijuana-related internet domain names have been snapped up as California, US, gets set for potentially legalising the narcotic.

California could be the first US state to allow the legal possession and sale of marijuana (although 14 States in the US have already legalised the drug for medicinal purposes).

Names such as icecreammariuana.com and marijuanapastry.com have been snapped up in expectation of a positive outcome.

According to the New York Times, the ‘landgrabbers’ are utilising slang names such as ‘bud’, ‘weed’ and ‘reefer’ in their domain name titles to attract customers and expect that a more lenient approach to the narcotic might send people online for their purchases in future.

A Hotfix Revolution

admin | October 27, 2010 | 3:44 pm

Consider the following scenario:

You have a computer that is running an x86-based version of Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

You start an application that does the following:

The application allocates a large block of a contiguous memory buffer. For example, the application allocates a memory buffer that is more than 700 MB.

The application uses the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver to connect to a database.

In this scenario, the block of the contiguous memory buffer may not be allocated. Therefore, the application may not start. Or, random application failures occur after the application starts.

Note- When you run this application on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), this issue does not occur.

The Resolution

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. This hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. If your business is been affected by the above, then a hotfix might receive additional testing.

Contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

Note- If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for this specific hotfix.
